Professor Tom Brown PhD C.Chem. FRSC FRSE,
Tom Brown is Professor of Bio-organic Chemistry and Head of Synthetic Chemistry at the University of Southampton. The main focus of Tom’s research is in nucleic acid chemistry with particular interests in triplex forming oligonucleotides, new methods of nucleic acid sequence recognition, mispairing and mutagenesis in DNA and the application of nucleic acid chemistry in genetic analysis and nanotechnology. Tom’s commercial activities include founding Oswel Research Products Ltd in 1992 which he grew as Managing Director to a turnover of £2M per year before selling the company to Eurogentec SA in 1999. He has since co-founded two new ventures, ATDBio Ltd (2005) and Primer Design Ltd (2005) and has numerous commercial research collaborations and consultancies. Tom’s previous positions include Lecturer, Reader and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh.
Professor David Fell PhD,
David Fell is Professor of Biochemistry and Assistant Dean in the School of Life Sciences at Oxford Brookes University. David’s main interests are the analysis of the structure of metabolic networks and metabolic control, and computer modeling and simulation of signal transduction pathways and the cell cycle and its applications in metabolic engineering and the modeling of drug action. David’s commercial activities include Chief Scientific Officer of Physiomics plc, which is using computer simulation of cellular systems for the development and analysis of therapeutic strategies for the pharmaceutical industry. David has held positions in, or chaired, a number of editorial boards, policy committees and international strategy panels in metabolic engineering and systems biology.
Professor Nick Lemoine MD PhD FRCPath FMedSci,
Nick Lemoine is Director of the Institute of Cancer and the Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre at Barts & The London School of Medicine. His research interests are in the fields of the molecular pathology of cancer as well as gene and viral therapeutics. He holds programme grants totalling over £10 million from Cancer Research UK, Digestive Cancer Campaign and the EU Framework 6 programme as well as awards from the Medical Research Council and other agencies. He has consulted for a number of pharmaceutical and commercial organisations internationally, and sits on the advisory boards of organisations and research institutes in the UK, EU and North America.
Dr Robert Weinzierl PhD,
Robert Weinzierl is the inventor of the HyperGenomics technology for epigenetic mapping and screening which ValiRx is developing for diagnostic applications, particularly in oncology. Robert is a Senior Lecturer in cell and molecular biology and leads a very active research group specialising in transcription and RNA polymerase structure and function at Imperial College in London. Previously he has held positions at Cambridge University, California University at Berkeley.
Professor Simak Ali PhD,
Simak Ali is Professor of Molecular Endocrine Oncology at Imperial College London. His research interest is the determination of the mechanisms that control gene expression. He is focusing on the role of transcription factors in the nuclear receptor superfamily, particularly the estrogen and androgen receptors, which play important roles in breast and prostate cancer development, respectively. Simak’s research is funded by grants from Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer Campaign, Association for International Cancer Research and BBSRC. He is one of the inventors of GeneICE and is an inventor on a number of patents involving the regulation of gene expression. Previously, he was at the Roslin Institute, and the IGBMC, Strasbourg, France.
